FAQ
How do NRG Island systems perform under extreme weather conditions, such as intense heat?
The efficiency and operation of floating photovoltaic systems using NRG Island technology are not significantly affected by high temperatures. The proximity of the water surface helps maintain a lower ambient temperature. This is due to the high thermal capacity of water (which absorbs and releases heat slowly) and the convective air movements that are generated near its surface. As a result, the photovoltaic panels do not overheat and can operate at higher efficiencies.
How do the systems perform in the event of heavy rainfall?
Heavy rainfall does not compromise the integrity of the system.
In which water bodies can it be installed? Are rivers suitable? What about near hydroelectric dams?
NRG Island floating systems are extremely versatile and can be installed on a wide range of water bodies, including:
• Abandoned quarries
• Dams
• Lakes
• Rivers
• Reservoirs of hydroelectric plants
• Basins
Any unused body of water represents an opportunity to generate clean and renewable energy, making use of surfaces that would otherwise remain untapped. In some cases, the installation can also hybridize existing energy sources (e.g., hydroelectric plants), increasing the overall efficiency of the site.
Timeline and logistics of the system installation
NRG Island technology is designed to ensure very rapid installation times, without the need for heavy lifting equipment.
Thanks to its modular and lightweight structure, it adapts with great flexibility to any site conditions, without limitations related to access to the water body or the shape of the shores. This makes installation possible even in complex or hard-to-reach locations.
Is the NRG Island system compatible with different models and brands of photovoltaic panels?
Yes, NRG Island technology is one of the floating platform with the widest compatibility with photovoltaic modules available on the market.
Thanks to its modular and adaptable structure, it can accommodate virtually any panel model, regardless of:
• Size and format
• Power and technology (monocrystalline, polycrystalline, bifacial, etc.)
• Mounting system
This flexibility allows the customer to freely choose the panel that best suits their technical, economic, and supply needs, without constraints imposed by the floating structure.
How do the systems perform in the event of snowfall?
The NRG Island technology is specifically designed and engineered to withstand the combined effects of snow and wind loads. Upon request, detailed and site-specific analysis is carried out based on the particular characteristics of the location, the system, and its geographical context. These assessments rely on advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and structural calculations in compliance with current regulations.
What happens in the event of a water basin overflow?
Systems using NRG Island technology are equipped with a custom-designed anchoring system, based on a detailed analysis of the site characteristics, the plant configuration, and its geographical location.
The design process makes use of advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations and structural calculation reports to ensure maximum safety and reliability.
Upon request, the systems can be engineered to withstand water level variations of up to 30 meters, ensuring stability even under extreme environmental conditions.
Can NRG systems be installed on both freshwater and saltwater?
Yes, systems using NRG Island technology are designed to be installed on both freshwater and saltwater.
The aluminum structural components are protected against corrosion through an anodization process, which provides enhanced resistance to weather conditions and the marine environment, ensuring long-term durability and reliability.
Is the system standard or can it be customized
NRG Island technology offers complete customization of all the main design variables of a floating photovoltaic system. The client can freely decide on:
• The layout and shape of the system
• The orientation and tilt of the panels
• The spacing between rows of photovoltaic panels
• The width and number of walkways
• The placement of inverters and transformers, both on the island and onshore
• The methods for bringing cables ashore, etc.
Every system tells a story. Are you ready to build yours?
